Solar Upgrade & Battery Enhancement

On a Rockwood Mini Lite 2522FB. We recently completed a smart solar and power upgrade on a 2026 Rockwood Mini Lite 2522FB travel trailer, helping the owner take full advantage of off-grid camping while improving overall comfort and convenience.

This unit already came well-equipped from the factory with 400W of solar and an onboard inverter, giving it a strong foundation for boondocking. The goal with this upgrade was simple: increase usable power, improve battery performance, and make the camping experience more comfortable in all conditions.

Expanded Solar Capacity

To build on the existing system, we installed an additional:

  • 220W solar panel (12V nominal, M10 technology)
  • Integrated with the existing solar setup using proper mounting brackets and MC4 combiner connections

This brings the total solar capacity up to 620 watts, allowing for:

  • Faster battery charging
  • Better performance in low-light conditions
  • More flexibility to run appliances and electronics off-grid

For customers who enjoy extended camping without hookups, this kind of upgrade makes a noticeable difference in daily usability.

6-Volt Battery Upgrade

We also upgraded the power storage system by replacing the standard 12V battery with:

  • (2) 6-volt GC2 golf cart batteries

This setup provides:

  • Increased amp-hour capacity
  • Longer run times between charges
  • More stable and efficient power delivery

Compared to a single 12V battery, a 6V battery bank is one of the best value upgrades for customers looking to maximize their solar investment.

Comfort Upgrade: MaxxAir Vent Cover (Black)

To improve airflow and comfort inside the trailer, we installed a black MaxxAir vent cover in the bedroom.

This is one of those simple upgrades customers love once they have it:

  • Allows you to keep vents open while towing
  • Lets you ventilate during rain without water getting inside
  • Improves airflow, reducing heat buildup in the unit

The black cover adds another benefit most people don’t think about:

  • Helps block early morning sunlight, letting you sleep longer
  • Makes it easier to take an afternoon nap without the cabin heating up

It’s a small upgrade that makes a big difference in day-to-day comfort.

Why This Setup Works

With factory solar already in place, this upgrade focused on maximizing what the unit could already do:

  • More solar input
  • Better battery storage
  • Improved airflow and comfort

The result is a travel trailer that’s far more capable off-grid, while also being more comfortable whether you’re parked for the night or towing down the highway.
