With fewer crowds, flowers in bloom and longer days, spring is ideal for hitting the open road (in an RV from Traveland RV, of course). This season offers countless opportunities for exploration. For many travellers, the milder weather makes spring more ideal than summer to get active outdoors. Whether you’re a seasoned RVer or just starting your journey, we’ve rounded up some of the best springtime activities to help you make the most of your adventures.

Walk Amongst the Wildflowers
Spring is officially in bloom, and there’s no better way to take in all the colours than by heading out for a hike! Wildflower season typically begins in May and lasts throughout the summer, so now is the time to get out early and avoid the crowds!
Hiking with kids? Try going on a colour hike and see if you can spot a flower or plant for every colour of the rainbow.

Pack the Fun with Outdoor Activities
Spring sun can shine just like summer but without the excessive heat. Enjoying some activities outdoors is perfect for a spring RV trip. Break out the bocce balls and badminton rackets, set up a soccer game or fly kites in the spring breeze!

Reel in Your Catch of the Day
In most areas, freshwater fishing season begins April 1st. Many lakes (particularly in colder areas) are starting to melt, which raises water levels and increases food sources for all lake life. This can cause fish to become more active and draw them into shallower waters, which means easier access for shore and dock fishing. Also, spring is spawning season for many fish species – making this the perfect time to defrost your skills!

Go for a Family Bike Ride
Biking is a great RV spring activity and a fun way to explore the campground. Park and campground trails start to reopen this season, and the blooming flowers and trees make for a scenic cruise. Plus, the cooler temperatures mean less bug swatting and sweat, so you can enjoy the ride in comfort.

Cozy up by the Campfire
Campfires are a camping staple, and there is no better time to savour them than in the spring. During the summer, many areas in Western Canada enforce campfire bans due to wildfire risks, but spring campfires are much safer to burn and typically allowed at most campgrounds. Plus, those chilly spring nights make the campfire feel even cozier.

Get Creative at Your Campsite
Arts and crafts aren’t just an indoor activity. When the sun is out, kids (and adults too!) can get creative using sidewalk chalk, paint or fallen foliage. For example, paint some smooth stones or press wildflowers and make them into bookmarks using tape and construction paper. Forgot the crafting supplies? Build tiny fairy houses using rocks, bark, and moss, or create a nature mandala by arranging leaves and pebbles into a circular design (no supplies needed).
The possibilities are endless! Just be sure to respect nature in and around your campsite and avoid picking live plants.
