Canada Day is the perfect reason to kick off the summer with a celebration! We have compiled a list of awesome recipes, drinks, and crafts to help you have an amazing Canada Day.
What you need
- Red and white acrylic paint and paint brushes
- Empty tin can
- Red and white ribbons
- Any other decorations you want!
Begin by painting the can white, and then decorate with any design of your choice!
Add glitter while the paint is still wet, and glue several ribbons around the bottom of a can.
Canada Windsock Craft
Punch two holes on the top of the can using a hammer and a nail. Thread string through the holes to hang your windsock!
Did you know Canada has the only Bear Prison in the world?
In Churchill, Manitoba, you will find the worlds only “Polar Bear Holding Facility.” The town of Churchhill has nearly 800 polar bears living in its vicinity.
If anybody spots a bear, they can call a hotline number and staff are send out to scare the bear away using cracker shells or rubber bullets. If this fails, the bear is taken to the worlds only “Polar Bear Holding Facility”.
The holding facility is inside a former military aircraft holder, and contains a number of large cells. The bears are kept locked inside the cells for up to 30 days.
Polar Bears are accustomed to not eating food for long periods of time, and they are only fed only snow and water while they are held to discourage them from coming back into town in search for food.
When the bear is ready for release it is tranquilized, marked for tracking, and then flown out with a helicopter. Repeat offenders may be held for longer than 30 days, and if a bear is deemed unable to be released it is transferred to Assiniboine Park Zoo in Winnipeg.
The Polar Bear Alert Program receives about 300 calls on average each year, and only about 50 bears end up inside the jail.

- Cranberry Juice
Fill each cup with ice and then fill 1/3 with cranberry juice. Add more ice and layer by pouring the sprite directly onto the ice cubes to avoid mixing.
Cut up some strawberries and place them gently on top of the ice to create your third and final red layer. Enjoy!
Frozen Coconut Mojito
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup mint leaves
- 6 ounces white rum
- Juice from 2 limes
- 2 cups canned light coconut milk
- Toasted coconut flakes for garnish
Add sugar, water, and mint leaves to a small saucepan. Bring it it to a boil and then reduce and allow it to cook for 10 minutes.
Strain and place the mint simple syrup into a container and allow to cool.
Add rum, coconut milk, lime juice, ice and the mint simple syrup to a blender, blend until smooth and garnish with toasted coconut flakes and mint leaves.

Desserts and Sweets
- 1/4 cup almond flour
- 1/4 cup rolled oats
- 1/3 cup shredded coconut
- 1/4 cup chopped nuts
- 3 tablespoons coconut sugar
- 2 tablespoons coconut oil
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 5 cups strawberries
- 1 tablespoon coconut sugar
- Juice from 1/2 lemon
- 1 tablespoon arrowroot starch
Preheat oven to 400F
Mix together almond flour, rolled oats, shredded coconut, chopped nuts and coconut sugar in a bowl. Add in the melted coconut oil, honey and vanilla extract. Mix together until mixture is crumbly.
Stir together the strawberry mixture ingredients in a large bowl. Pour the strawberry mixture into a square baking dish and scatter the topping mixture evenly over the top.
Bake for 20 minutes or until strawberries are cooked and bubbling and topping is golden.
Strawberry Cheesecake Cookies
- 1 cup butter
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 3/4 cup all purpose flour
- 1/2-2/3 cup diced fresh strawberries
- 3/4 cup cream cheese
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
Mix the cream cheese and powdered sugar together until smooth. Place 10-12 teaspoons of cream cheese on a baking sheet and freeze for at least one hour.
Whisk together flour, salt, and baking soda. In a separate bowl, beat together butter and sugars until light and fluffy, and then add in the egg, yolk, and vanilla extract. Add in the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Gently fold in diced strawberries.
Scoop dough onto cookie sheet. Each scoop should be about 2 tablespoons, these are big cookies! Press the back of a spoon into the top half of the dough balls to create an indent.
Remove the cream cheese from the freezer and place one into each of the cookies. Then take a second ball of dough, and place it over the cream cheese, pinching the sides of the dough together to seal it in without squishing it together.
Refrigerate the prepared dough balls while the oven preheats to 350F.
Bake for 13-17 minutes, until the edges are slightly brown and the tops are set. Allow them to cool before enjoying!
